Asylum and Political Refuge In the United States of America, in order to qualify for eligibility for asylum, an alien must demonstrate that he has experienced persecution in his or her country of origin because of his/her race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group, and he/she has a well-founded fear of future persecution.
