The O-1 nonimmigrant visa allows individuals with extraordinary ability or achievement in fields such as science, arts, education, business, athletics, or motion picture/television to work in the United States temporarily. - O-1A:For individuals with extraordinary ability in science, education, business, or athletics.

Eligibility Requirements
- O-1A (Science, Education, Business, Athletics)Applicants must demonstrate sustained national or international acclaim through at least three of the following:
- National and/or international awards or prizes for excellence in the field
- Membership in associations requiring outstanding achievement
- Published material about the applicant’s work in the field for which classification is sought
- Original contributions of major significance in the field
- Authorship of scholarly articles in professional journals, or other major media.
- High salary or remuneration relative to peers
- Work experience in a critical role for organizations with a distinguished reputation.
- Participation as a judge of others’ work in the same or in an allied field of specialization for which classification is sought
- O-1B (Arts, Motion Picture, TV)
In order to obtain an O-1B visa, the applicant must either have received or been nominated for a major national or international award (such as an Academy Award, Emmy, Grammy, or Director’s Guild Award) or meet at least three of the evidentiary criteria listed below.
- Critical role (lead or starring) in distinguished productions or events.
- National or international recognition through published material
- Critical role in distinguished organizations or establishments.
- Major commercial or critically acclaimed success in the field, such as box office receipts, ticket sales, or critical reviews.
- Significant recognition from experts, organizations, or authorities in the field.
- High salary or other compensation relative to peers, supported by contracts or other evidence.
- O-2 (Essential support personnel)
Applicants must demonstrate that their support is integral to the O-1 visa holder’s performance and require specialized skills or experience that cannot be easily performed by a U.S. worker.
Period of Stay
- Initial stay:Up to 3 years for the main event or performance.
- Extensions:Granted in 1-year increments for ongoing or recurring work.
Family Benefits (O-3)
- Spouse and unmarried children under 21 may accompany the O-1/O-2 visa holder.
- O-3 dependents may study in the U.S., but are not authorized to work.
